Local News - Bolsonaro Approval Rating Continues To Deteriorate

  • Economy Minister Paulo Guedes commented that Brazil's budget needs a solution that is legally secure and politically comfortable. He explained there is no disagreement, fight or war between government and congress over the budget bill.
    • Government can't run the risk to have its accounts rejected by Federal Audit Court.
    • Solution for budget bill will come before April 22nd, which is the deadline for President Jair Bolsonaro to sign it.
    • The President has signalled intentions for a partial veto to help to make room for mandatory spending on social security that had been cut before the bill was approved by congress in March, newspaper Folha de S.Paulo reported.
  • Separately, Bolsonaro's government had been rated bad/terrible by 48% of respondents in the latest XP/Ipespe poll disclosed on Monday, up from 31% in the October survey.
    • Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is seen slightly ahead of Bolsonaro in the first round of the 2022 elections, according to the survey, with 29% of voting intentions while Bolsonaro has 28%.
