Lula Set to Meet With BCB Chief for First Time in Term

BRAZIL
  • President Lula is set to meet with the BCB Chief Campos Neto today, meeting this evening at the Presidential Palace in Brasilia. The meeting will be the first of Lula's term, which has overseen an uncomfortable relationship with the central bank, and heavy government criticism over their monetary policy.
  • Finance Minister Haddad is set to join at the President's request, and will take place after the market close at 5.30pm local time. There has been no confirmation of remarks to press or any releases to media.
  • Late yesterday, BCB's Galipolo spoke at an event in Sao Paulo, repeating that the Brazilian economy is expected to decelerate, with rates remaining in the 'contractionary' zone.
