Macron to Ask French Refiners to Sell Fuel at Cost

OIL PRODUCTS

French President Macron said Sunday he will push the country’s refining sector to sell gasoline and diesel at cost to try and battle inflationary pressures.

  • “The Prime Minister will bring together all the players in the sector this week and we will ask them to sell at cost price, that is to say that no one makes a margin,” Macron said.
  • “There is one thing we can take action on and that is acting on abusive margins in refining,” Macron said Sunday evening.
  • Macron said they will not offer fuel subsidies like last year and added his government could not afford to cut taxes on fuels.
  • He said France would grant €100 (US$106.52) in aid to the poorest workers who drive to work, to stem the impact of inflation on households.
