Maj Leader Schumer Warns Democrat Senators Of Long Summer Of Work

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (R-NY) has circulated a letter to Democratic US senators outlining that he plans to bring forward a bipartisan infrastructure bill and a budget resolution (to set up a reconciliation procress) in the coming work period. He outlines that "time is of the essence … Senators should be prepared for the possibility of working long nights, weekends, and remaining in Washington into the previously-scheduled August state work period."

  • The August recess is tentatively scheduled to last from 9 August to 10 September. This provides one month for the Senate to get the controversial legislation through if it is to avoid eating into the summer recess (an outcome that would likely garner significant opprobrium from senators).
