HUNGARY: Manufacturing PMI Back Below 50-Threshold

  • Hungary's manufacturing PMI fell to 49.8 in January from 50.6 in December, according to data from Halpim. That’s below expectations of a more moderate decline to 50.2, tipping the series in contractive territory for the first time since October.
  • Meanwhile, Hungary’s preliminary trade surplus narrowed to EUR 387m in December from a surplus of EUR 819m in November, according to data released by the Central Statistical Office this morning. Imports fell 16.8% m/m while exports fell 19.1% m/m.
  • Prime Minister Viktor Orban attends an EU leaders’ retreat in Brussels where he is set to meet with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the military alliance chief’s official residence.
