MBA Mortgage Rates Hold At Highs Since 2001

  • MBA composite mortgage applications increased 2.3% last week (refis +3%, purchases +2%) for their first increase in six weeks.
  • It came as the 30Y mortgage rate held steady at 7.31% after increasing 15bps the week prior to fresh highs since 2001, with 30Y mortgage rates still holding trend ~300bp spreads to 10Y Tsy yields.
  • The nudge higher in purchase applications took it off the lowest level since 1995 after the prior week’s -5% drop.
