MNI BRIEF: Canada Business Confidence Tumbles on 2nd Wave Fear

(MNI) OTTAWA
OTTAWA (MNI)

Canadian small business confidence fell the most since the first-wave Covid-19 lockdown in the spring on concerns about a second wave.

The Federation of Independent Business said its October Barometer -- tracking views of the economy a year from now -- fell 5.9 points to 53.3. That's the lowest since May and below a level of 65 associated with an economy meeting its potential.

There were declines in 10 of 13 industries and overall capacity use of 71% has been stalled since August. The CFIB report mirrors a drop in consumer confidence the Conference Board reported earlier this week.
