MNI BRIEF: Canada PM Trudeau Loses Another Cabinet Minister
MNI (OTTAWA) - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau lost another cabinet minister Wednesday, adding to his Liberal Party's struggles ahead of an election due next year.
Employment Minister Randy Boissonnault is stepping aside effective immediately according to a statement from Trudeau's office and "will focus on clearing the allegations made against him."
Opposition lawmakers have raised questions about Boissonnault's past business dealings and he recently apologized after others challenged his claims he was an indigenous person. With Liberals far behind in public opinion polls, Trudeau in recent months has seen the departure of other ministers including top deputies in the provinces of Quebec and Newfoundland, and the party's national campaign manager.
