MNI BRIEF: Canada Revises Core Inflation Rates Upward

(MNI) OTTAWA
OTTAWA (MNI)

Canada's statistics agency revised its core inflation measures upwards on Monday to suggest that underlying price pressures are closer to the central bank's 2% target.

The average of the three core rates tracked by the Bank of Canada is now 1.8% for January and 1.7% for December. The earlier figures were 1.5% for January and 1.4% for December.

Statistics Canada said the earlier figures published last Wednesday included a change to seasonal adjustment calculations that require more analysis. The current figures still include a regular annual revision.
