MNI BRIEF: China May Act Against U.S. Export Controls: MOFCOM

MNI (Singapore)

China firmly opposes the U.S. using export controls as a tool of political suppression and economic bullying, and it will take necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies, said Gao Feng, spokesman of the Ministry of Commerce at a briefing on Thursday.

China opposes generalising the idea of national security, and abusing unilateral sanctions and "long-arm jurisdiction", urging the U.S. to stop, said Gao, when asked to comment U.S. Commerce Secretary’s recent speech about considering adding more Chinese companies to the government's economic blacklist.

Also, China opposes the launch of the “U.S.-Taiwan 21st Century Trade Initiative”, said Gao, adding the U.S. should abide by the One-China principle and handle economic and trade relations with Taiwan prudently to avoid wrong signals.
