MNI BRIEF: ECB Says No Decision Yet On Digital Euro Intro

LONDON (MNI)

The European Central Bank said Friday no decision has yet been taken on whether a digital euro will be introduced to the euro area in a report published on the possible issuance of one.

A digital euro would be an electronic form of central bank money accessible to all citizens and firms, the report says, like banknotes, but in a digital form. helping "make their daily payments in a fast, easy and secure way. It would complement cash, not replace it. The Eurosystem will continue to issue cash in any case.,," the report says

The report was prepared by the Eurosystem High-Level Task Force on central bank digital currency (CBDC) and approved by the Governing Council.
