MNI BRIEF: EU Commission Proposes New Recovery Fund Revenues

The European Commission said it has proposed three new sources of revenue to fund borrowing to finance the grant element of the Recovery and Resilience Fund: revenues from emissions trading; revenues from the proposed EU carbon border-adjustment mechanism, and a share of residual profits from multinationals that will be re-allocated to EU Member States under the recent OECD/G20 agreement).
By 2026-2030 the new sources of revenue are expected to generate around EUR17 billion for the EU annually, the Commission said.
