BRUSSELS (MNI)

The European Union has proposed to member states the additional purchase of 200 million additional doses of the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine and the option to acquire an additional 100 million, the Commission said Friday. Any deal would see the extra doses delivered in Q2 2021 and give the EU access to as many as 600 million doses of the vaccine.

To date, the EU's portfolio of agreed vaccine purchases has given it access to up to 2.3 billion doses of various technologies. As of January 7, the vaccines manufactured by BioNTech/Pfizer and Moderna had been approved for use.
