MNI BRIEF: Geoeconomic Fragmentation Now Reality - Makhlouf
MNI (LONDON) - Geoeconomic fragmentation “has moved from being a risk to becoming a reality," Central Bank of Ireland Governor Gabriel Makhlouf said on Thursday at an event in Dublin, pointing to particular challenges for Ireland, a small, open economy.
On eurozone inflation, Makhlouf said “the disinflation process remains subject to risks, and there is a very high degree of uncertainty surrounding the outlook. We stand ready to react to changes in the outlook, for both inflation and growth," with the ECB "not committed to any specific future path for interest rates.” (See MNI SOURCES: ECB Likely To Tweak Language, Keep "Restrictive" )
Executive board members Frank Elderson and Piero Cipollone have spoken at recent MNI Connect events on risks facing the eurozone economy.
