MNI BRIEF: Trudeau to Keep Canada Stimulus as Long as It Takes

OTTAWA (MNI)

Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Wednesday he will keep economic support programs in place "for as long as it takes" when asked about allowing some of the most expensive worker and business subsidies to expire this month as scheduled.

"It comes down to the bottom line of the promise that we made at the beginning of this pandemic, to have Canadians' backs as much as it took, as long as it took," Trudeau said.

He made the comment at a press conference after Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said the programs are under review and she's looking at an economy where some industries are being "hit particularly hard" by the Delta variant. Freeland said she will have more details soon.
