     LONDON (MNI) - Europe sees a modestly busy intro the week on Monday. At
0700GMT Germany releases their trade balance figures and data on industrial
production and labour costs. Furthermore, retail sales figures are released for
Spain and the US at 0800GMT and 1230GMT, respectively.
     The trade surplus for Germany was EUR 19.4 billion in December. Exports
grew by 1.5% and imports by 1.2%. January's figures for industrial production
y/y showed a 3.9% decrease, whereas the m/m values indicated a 0.4% decline.
Germany's labour costs were increasing 2.7% on a yearly basis in Q3 and showed a
1% increase quarter-on-quarter.
     Retail sales in Spain increased by 0.8% in February.
     In the US overall retail sales m/m decreased by 1.2%. Retail sales
excluding motor vehicles showed a 1.8% decline, whereas sales excluding motor
vehicles and gas decreased by 1.4%.
     ECB Executive Board member Benoit Coeure participates in the Eurogroup
meeting in Brussels, with much to discuss following Thursday's ECB meeting and
policy decisions.
