MNI POLICY: BOJ To Extend Lending Program If Needed: Kuroda

TOKYO (MNI)

The Bank of Japan will extend its special lending facility, currently slated to end next March, to help boost corporate financing if needed, Governor Haruhiko Kuroda said Wednesday

"When the BOJ decides to extend the program, the bank will decide on it not just before March," he said

Kuroda stressed the effectiveness of measures that the BOJ has implemented to support getting funds to firms.

Answering questions from the press about his first official meeting with Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, Kuroda said, "The BOJ and the government will communicate with each other and manage macroeconomic policy in an appropriate manner."

He also said that the government and the BOJ have been implementing their individual roles based on a joint statement made by both back in 2013.

Earlier in the day, Kuroda spoke to business leaders on Osaka City via an online conference.
