MNI POLICY: China Declines to Confirm U.S. Phase-1 Signing Day

BEIJING (MNI) - China's Ministry of Commerce declined to confirm that the
signing of the Phase One deal will take place in January as claimed by U.S.
officials.
Negotiators are in close contact on the follow-up work including the
signing of the agreement, spokesman Gao Feng said at a regular briefing on
Thursday responding to a request for confirmation that signing would take place
in the first week of January.
Gao also declined to say whether China can meet U.S. requirement of
doubling the purchase of American farm goods.
Earlier in the day, China State Council's tariff committee provided a
second list of products to be exempted from retaliatory tariffs, consisting of
six petrochemical products including white oil.
