Monday 2 December:
- France: A crunch day for Prime Minister Michel Barnier, with his minority government facing the prospect of a censure motion in the National Assembly. Deputies are set to begin the final reading of the Social Security Finance Bill (PLFSS) at 1500CET (0900ET, 1400GMT). Far-right Rassemblement National (National Rally, RN) leader Jordan Bardella has said that “barring a last-minute miracle” his party will oppose the PLFSS. Without RN abstaining, the bill will fail. This could force Barnier to use Article 49.3 of the French Constitution to force the bill through without a vote. However, the RN has confirmed that it will back a censure motion from the leftist New Popular Front (NFP) if Barnier forces the PLFSS through. The combined votes of the RN and NPF would be enough to remove the Barnier government.
