CANADA
CANADA: Moody's said Canada's regional governments "have a stable outlook for
2018, and will be supported by modest economic and revenue growth."
- Moody's new outlook presentation forecast "Canada's economic growth will be
among the top G-20 Advanced counties, even as real GDP growth is expected to
moderate slightly from higher levels in 2017. This will help support provincial
revenue growth which in turn will lead to improved fiscal performance."
- "The majority of provinces are either at, or closely approaching, balanced
operating positions", noted Michael Yake, a Moody's vp & senior analyst. "This
has reduced upward pressure on debt levels. However, provinces continue to issue
debt for capital projects, which will keep debt to revenue ratios relatively
stable in 2018."
