Moscow "Sour" on NATO Expansion in Nod to Sweden & Finland

  • Russia’s Pacific Fleet have conducted war exercises involving 40 warships and support vessels as well 20 planes and helicopters, according to ITAR-TASS. The exercise is due to last for week, ending on June 10th.
  • Medvedev defended the Russian economy overnight, stating that he has no doubts about the Russian economy’s ability to withstand sanctions. He raised the Import Substitution policy, launched in 2014, as being a key tenet of the country’s path of sustainable development. He added that Russia is “sour” on NATO expansion, claiming that NATO is trying to “gain the upper hand all over the planet”.
  • Later today, Putin is to meet with the head of the African Union, while the foreign ministry hold their regular weekly briefing. Foreign minister Lavrov makes a solo appearance at the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society in Moscow.
