POLAND: NBP's Tyrowicz Complains About Quality Of Debate In MPC

POLAND
  • NBP's Joanna Tyrowicz told TOK FM that she "doesn't listen" to Governor Adam Glapinski, but there is a new theme in comments from other MPC members. She said she was puzzled to see that the Council cut rates when wages were growing at pace, while now things seem to have changed. Tyrowicz said that she still doesn't see room for rate cuts and complained that the Council cannot hold substantive debates and member often discuss issues "without any connection to facts, data, or even monetary policy."
  • PM Donald Tusk's coalition partners from the Left and Poland 2050 criticised his proposal to reduce the eligibility for the monthly PLN800-per-child benefit among migrants only to those who live, work and pay taxes in Poland. The idea was proposed by Tusk's Civic Coalition's (KO's) presidential candidate Rafal Trzaskowski in an apparent attempt to lure right-leaning voters. The proposal would take the biggest toll on Ukrainian migrants and is supported by the main opposition Law and Justice (PiS) and the far-right Confederation.
  • Ex-PM Mateusz Morawiecki resigned from parliamentary immunity amid an ongoing probe into his role in formally announcing and ordering preparations to hold an "envelope election" during the COVID-19 pandemic. The then-opposition deemed a postal presidential election illegal and it did not happen eventually amid backlash from various state organs. A re-run was held in person, resulting in a re-election of Andrzej Duda.
  • The National Bank of Poland (NBP) will release December money supply data at 13:00GMT/14:00CET.
