New Government Could Be Sworn In On Dec 13, Outgoing PM Appoints KNF Chief

POLAND
  • President Andrzej Duda's aide Andrzej Dera suggested that if acting Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki fails to form government and the procedure advances to the second stage (i.e. selection of the PM candidate by parliament), the most likely date for the swearing-in of the new Cabinet would be December 13. This would allow the new Prime Minister to represent Poland at the European Council summit scheduled for December 14-15.
  • Morawiecki is struggling to finalise the line-up of his proposed Cabinet, as ministers are apprehensive of participating in his futile attempt at staying in power, while opposition parties are turning down his invitations for talks. Business Insider reported that he is aiming to unveil his proposed Cabinet on Monday.
  • The outgoing Prime Minister is set to appoint the new head of Poland's financial watchdog KNF. There has been speculation that Morawiecki will ask Jacek Jastrzebski to keep the post for another five-year term. The incoming administration will not be able to replace the sitting KNF chief until the expiry of his term.
