NextDecade Asks FERC For Action On Stalled Rio Grande LNG Project

LNG

NextDecade requested that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) put the Rio Grande LNG export project on the agenda for meeting this month, the company said in a letter.

  • “Bluntly, the world is watching and waiting for the Commission’s action in this proceeding, perplexed by the lack of action for 18 months in light of the limited remand,” NextDecade Chairman and CEO Matthew Schatzman wrote.
  • FERC granted approval for Rio Grande LNG project in 2019, but the US Court of Appeals for DC Circuit remanded the regulatory body in 2021 to review impact of the projects.
  • The company signed several long-term LNG supply agreements in the past months and hoped for a final investment decision in Q1 2023. Commercial deliveries are expected to start in 2027.
