NGO Attempts to Re-Direct State Capture Report Away From Ramaphosa

  • NGO, Democracy in Action, has made a last-minute court application to prevent the handing over of the state capture report to President Cyril Ramaphosa (due today).
    • The group is arguing that the president has been implicated by several witnesses in the state capture commission proceedings and that the report should instead be handed over to deputy president, David Mabuza.
  • Fuel prices set to decline by R0.71/L for 93 & R0.68/L in 95 petrol tomorrow after multiple sequential months of increases. Diesel will be reduced by R0.67/L & paraffin by R0.71/L.
    • Automobile association says that a review of the fuel price structure and audit of existing prices must still occur
  • Eskom expects clarity early this year around the start of its independent transmission unit, which is still awaiting license approvals and the sign-off of creditors.
    • Separating the business, with generation and distribution arms to follow, is part of the company’s strategy to return to profitability
