Nomura Sees Higher Chance Of 50bp Than A Pause

Nomura’s base case is for the RBA to hike rates 25bp next week but they see a 50bp move more likely than a pause. Head of Australian rates strategy Ticehurst observed that it is currently difficult for the central bank with signs that the economy is slowing but underlying inflation “uncomfortably hot”. Nomura is expecting a recession in Australia with rate cuts in H1 2024. (The Australian)
