North Sea Route Transit Projected to Grow

Hydrocarbons, coal and metals will be the top transit cargos transported along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) by 2035 according to Rosatom's head of the department on NSR infrastructure development Konstantin Stasyuk.

  • "Under the plan for development of the Northern Sea Route's infrastructures to 2035, we have set target indicators, and for years 2030, 2035 we have even raised them," he said. "As for transit, for example, by 2035 it is forecasted at 30 million tons - mostly hydrocarbons: oil, LNG, gas condensate, as well as coal, metals."
  • The Northern Sea Route is the shortest water route between the European part of Russia and the Far East. It will serve as a key passage to move Russian oil and oil products into Asia as upcoming bans erode flows into Europe.
