October Personal Income -0.7%; PCE +0.5%

  • U.S. personal income fell 0.7% in October following a revised 0.7% increase (prev +0.9%) in September, according to figures released Wednesday by the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
  • Markets had expected October personal income to remain unchanged.
  • The decline in personal income mostly reflected a decline in government social benefits, the BEA said. That was partially offset by increases in compensation and proprietors' income.
  • Personal consumption expenditures rose 0.5% in October after increasing 1.2% in September.
  • The PCE price index was unchanged in October following September's 0.2% increase. Excluding food and energy, PCE was also unchanged.
  • From a year earlier, the PCE price index was up 1.2% while the core PCE price index rose 1.4% from one year ago.
  • Disposable personal income fell 0.8% in October.
