OFZs Hang Onto Weekly Gains, But Geopolitical Risks Loom Large

RUSSIA
  • Local & USD rates open in the red this morning, with US concerns over the Russian troop build-up near Ukraine spooking markets somewhat.
  • OFZs trade +4-5bp higher across the curve, while USD bonds also hold +2-3.5bp higher at the start of play.
  • This reverses some of the gains made in yesterday's session following Wednesday's improved weekly CPI reading, but OFZs still remain on track for a weekly gain.
  • Most notably, 7-10Y yields stand 25-27bp lower w/w, while the remainder of the curve holds -16-23bp lower.
  • Russia's 5Y CDS is also rising against the grain in EM today, up +3bp while SA and Turkey remain lower – potentially pointing to idiosyncratic geopolitical concerns over Ukraine & Belarus.
