- The following chart puts the rise in Ohio initial jobless claims, which was more of a sharp bounce back slightly above April levels, in context of the Massachusetts data before they were re-reported after the emergence of fraudulent claims.
- It suggests that whilst the latest rise is unusually sharp, it isn't as suspiciously so compared to prior levels. That might indicate a more genuine slowing in the labor market, but notably one that appears somewhat regionally focused in latest data.
