OMV and Equinor Signed Five Year Natural Gas Supply Contract

NATURAL GAS

OMV and Equinor have signed a five year supply contract for the sale and distribution of natural gas according to a statement from OMV yesterday.

  • A quantity of 12TWh per year will be delivered annually to the virtual Trading Hub Europe (“THE”) in Germany starting from 1 Oct 2023.
  • The new bilateral agreement adds to the volumes under already existing contracts and is priced at market terms. OMV have already booked additional pipeline capacity to transport LNG into central Europe.
  • OMV continues its gas diversification strategy to help Austria cut its reliance on Russian energy. The company has also contracted long-term LNG regasification capacities at the GATE terminal in Rotterdam and participates as a potential buyer in the EU Joint Gas Purchasing Platform auctions.
  • Deliveries under a long-term contract with Gazprom PJSC running until 2040 still accounted for over half of Austria’s gas imports.
  • “The safety of supplies is of priority for Austria,” said Chancellor Karl Nehammer. “I need to ensure that if Russia decides to stop deliveries, we can continue our life in Austria.”
