Pavel Holds Meetings With Top Officials, Budget Balance On Tap

  • Czech President-elect Petr Pavel holds meetings with senior officials today, including the Prime Minister and Speakers of both houses of parliament. During the first days after his election, Pavel reaffirmed his pro-West credentials as he held a phone call with Taiwan President Tsai in defiance of Beijing's diplomatic protests and expressed the view that Ukraine deserves NATO membership once the war is over.
  • Labour Minister Marian Jurecka told Mlada Fronta Dnes that he will unveil the main assumptions of a pension reform in March. The minister refused to unveil the details of the plan that could change Czechia's retirement age.
  • Czechia's S&P Global Manufacturing PMI improved to 44.6 in January from 42.6 previously, exceeding the 43.4 consensus forecast. The focus now turns to monthly budget balance, coming up later in the day.
