PiS Mulls Tweaks to Healthcare Premium Reform, HealthMin Sees New Wave of Covid Infections

POLAND

LOCAL NEWS

  • PiS reportedly mulling a tweak to the plotted healthcare premium reform in the frame of the Polish Deal platform and could oblige entrepreneurs to allocate 3% of the entire generated income for the purpose, visibly down vs the initially proposed 9%
  • HealthMin says Poland expects to suffer even 15k Covid-19 cases daily at the turn of September and October in the most pessimistic scenario, while in the most optimistic one, Poland will stay in the side trend with the number of cases capped at 1k daily (threshold for tighter rustications is 1k cases/day).
    • Says latter scenario is less likely than the pessimistic one as it is based on the assumption of higher vaccinations level as well as obeying basic epidemic rules by the society
  • Poland's vaccination process has visibly lost momentum, with current vaccinations driven mainly by second doses.
    • Officials admit that the pool of people willing to get the jab has almost run out. Some efforts have been made to encourage Poles to get vaccinated, but with no major effect so far, and Poland started to sell its vaccine stocks abroad.
    • As on August 16, Poland has administered 35.4 mln Covid-19 vaccine doses, with 18.2 mln Poles now fully vaccinated.
