Poland’s February has edged high on the back of price increases in emissions, which offset declines in coal. However, temperatures in Warsaw are anticipated to remain mostly above the 30-year norm over 6-17 January.

  • Poland Feb baseload power settled at PLN458.65/MWh compared to its settled price of PLN453.47/MWh on 2 January, according to data on Polish power exchange TGE.
  • This is the highest the contract has been since settling at PLN463/MWh on 2 December 2024.
  • EUA DEC 25 up 1.2% at 76.07 EUR/MT
  • Rotterdam Coal FEB 25 down 1.3% at 112.25 USD/MT at 16:03 GMT
  • Average temperatures in Warsaw are seen to remain mostly above the norm of around -0.8C over 6-17 January, however, will dip sharply below over 4-5 January at around -2C.
  • The February contract traded 24 times in 24 lots from 25 lots exchanged in the previous session.
  • The contract opened at PLN454/MWh before rising to as high as PLN459.50/MWh and ending at a session at PLN459/MWh.
  • Closer in, the day-ahead rose to PLN489.69/MWh for Saturday delivery from PLN387.26/MWh for Friday as temps are seen to drop to -2C tomorrow from 0.55C today.
  • Looking slightly ahead, wind is expected at a 62% load factor, or 5.74GW on 6 January – which could cap gains from typically higher demand from the weekend demand.
