Poll: LR's Bertrand Ahead Of Macron, Le Pen In Hypothetical Second Round

FRANCE

Latest opinion polls show frontrunner to gain the centre-right Les Republicains' (LR) presidential nomination, President of the Regional Council of Hauts-de-France Xavier Bertrand, leading both incumbent President Emmanuel Macron and right-wing nationalist National Rally (RN) leader Marine Le Pen in hypothetical second-round match-ups for next year's presidential election.

  • Bertrand (LR-EPP): 61% (+1), Le Pen (RN-ID): 39% (-1)
  • Bertrand (LR-EPP): 52% (+3), Macron (LREM-RE): 48% (-3)
  • Macron (LREM-RE): 57% (+3), Le Pen (RN-ID): 43% (-3)
    • All polls Ifop-Fiducial poll, +/- vs. 18-20 May 2021, Fieldwork: 29 June-2 July 2021. Sample size: 1,337
  • Currently, Bertrand is the only potential candidate within a reasonable distance of Macron and Le Pen in opinion polling (see 1002BST FX/FI bullet). The hypothetical polling continues to show the 'Republican front' keeping Le Pen from power, with both Macron and Bertrand seen as beating the right-wing candidate in any second round at present.
