POWER: Power Demand in Germany, France, UK to Fall 7% M/M in February

Power demand in Germany, France and the UK is expected to decline by 7% on the month in February to total 149GW. Residual load, in contrast, is forecast to rise on the month amid expectations of low wind output according to BNEF. 

  • German power demand is forecast at 58.6GW in February, which would be up by 2.1% on the year.
  • French power consumption is seen at 60.4GW in February, which would be a year-on-year increase of 8.5%.
  • In the UK, power demand is forecast to 30.3GW this month, which would be up by 2.9% on the year.
  • In Spain and Italy, power demand is forecast to average 61GW this month, which would be unchanged on the month.
  • On the supply side, wind generation across Germany, France and the UK is forecast to decline by 23% on the month to 22GW.
  • While wind generation is expected to be significantly lower on the year this month in Germany and France, output in the UK is expected to be higher on the year.
  • French nuclear generation in February is seen to be 14% lower month on month at 45GW. Nuclear fleet availability is seen at 77% of capacity this month.
  • Residual load in Germany, France and the UK is expected to rise by 3% on the month to 39GW in February amid lower wind output.
  • Germany is forecast to see the largest year-on-year increase in residual load this month of almost 25% to 35.4GW.
