President and Finance Minister Expected to Speak

COLOMBIA

  • Yesterday, BanRep co-director Roberto Steiner spoke on a panel at Cartagena banking conference. He said the pace of growth in the loan portfolio is concerning, however, higher interest rates should soon curb that rate of growth; this is already starting to happen.
    • Sees inflation slowing in some consumer goods, including food.
    • Asked if the central bank might further increase the pace of interest rate hikes, said “I don’t think the current conditions are there to accelerate the withdrawal of monetary stimulus”.
