FED
FED: Q&A continues:
- Q: FOMC still has easing bias?
A: We don't actually have that practice anymore. We made one decision today: to
cut by 25bps. We're going to be highly data-dependent, and not on a pre-set
course. Sometimes the path ahead is clear, sometimes less so. Going
meeting-by-meeting. Will act as appropriate...
- Q: Re financial conditions.
A: What we do going forward will depend on data and information. Since last
meeting, global growth weaker, trade developments up and down and up again.
Watching US data carefully. Will make assessment as we go.
- Q: On how divided the committee is. Where do you stand?
A: This is a time of difficult judgments and of disparate perspectives. That's
nothing but healthy.... Better to be proactive in adjusting policy if you can.
Applying that principle in a certain situation is where the challenge comes. The
main takeaway is that committee has changed its stance throughout the year as
appropriate; we have been willing to move on data, etc.
