Quebec Premier Says Proposed Energy East Oil Pipeline Unlikely to Win Approval: OPIS
- Quebec has not softened its opposition to a proposed pipeline that would move more than 1 mb/d of crude oil from western Canada to eastern provinces.
- Quebec Premier Francois Legault said he believes it’s unlikely that the proposed Energy East pipeline that would carry oil from Alberta to tidal waters in St. John, New Brunswick, where it would have access to international markets, can be approved.
- The Energy East project has been under discussion for more than a decade has faced stiff opposition in Quebec where Montreal residents have raised concerns about drinking water contamination. The $12 billion line could provide crude oil to Irving’s 320 kb/d New Brunswick refinery and reduce, if not eliminate, the need to import oil from the US and others.
