Rejigged ECB Survey Sees Mixed Inflation Outlook

Consumer inflation expectations were mixed in the ECB's latest consumer expectations survey, with the 1-year ahead outcome a touch lower and the 3-year horizon outlook a touch higher.

  • The survey, which was rejigged and expanded for the December read and now included 5 additional countries for a total of 11, saw the 1-year ahead outlook fall to 3.2% from 3.5% in November (the 6 country read for December was 3.1% from 3.2%), while the 3-year expectation saw a modest uptick to 2.5% from 2.4% (Decemder 2.4% from 2.2% for 6 countries).
  • The ECB will publish full 6 nation comparion data just after 10CET Tuesday. (see MNI INTERVIEW: Beware Temporary Inflation Dip- ECB's Kazaks)
  • The survey covers five additional countries -- Ireland, Greece, Austria, Portugal and Finland. The results of the January survey will be published on February 23, as the ECB cuts the lag time between survey and release further.
