CANADA: REPEAT: Ahead of prepared speech from BoC's Macklem in 10 minutes:

- Bank of Canada governor Macklem speaks later today at a Canadian Club/Cercle

Canadiens event. Bloomberg are advertising the speech as Macklem's first as BoC

governor, although he appeared and testified in front of Canadian lawmakers last

week.

- In his role, Macklem has already stated he believes the Canadian economy has

bottomed out, adding that he is not concerned over the size of the BoC balance

sheet. There was some market confusion in early May at his introduction as BoC

governor after wires quoted him as saying "negative rates [are] among tools at

BoC" - but the statement itself expanded his comments to say "there are some

disruptive effects of negative interest rates" and "I'm quite comfortable with

the effective lower bound where it is."
