Russia Cut Latvian Gas Over Weekend

NATURAL GAS

Russia cut gas supplies to Latvia over the weekend after accusing it of violating supply conditions.

  • Latvia now joins Poland, Bulgaria, Finland, Netherlands and Denmark – all of which had gas supplies cut by Russia for refusing to set up rouble accounts to pay for gas. Shell Germany was also cut off.

  • Latvian officials have said the move will have little impact on the country’s gas situation as the country was already working towards stopping Russian gas from January 1 2023.
  • "We do not see any major impacts from such a move," Edijs Saicans, deputy state secretary on energy policy at the Latvian Economy Ministry said about the action.
