ENERGY: Russia Pushing For Closer US Economic Ties In Separate Riyadh Talks

ENERGY

Kirill Dmitriev, Head of Russia’s Sovereign Wealth Fund, has been holding separate discussions in Riyadh and appears to be pushing for sanctions relief and closer economic ties with the US.

  • In interviews prior to high-level talks began in Riyadh, Dmitriev said the following:
  • “US oil majors have done very well in Russia.” “We believe that, at some point, they will return – why would they pass up the opportunities Russia has provided for access to its natural resources?”
  • Regarding LNG projects or resuming gas shipments via the undamaged section of Nord Stream he said: "It has not yet been discussed. We are just at the start of our dialogue.”
  • "We should also pursue joint projects, including, for example, in the Arctic and in other fields. Joint projects will make us more successful.”
  • "I deal with investment and economic matters, and we have a number of proposals that our counterparts are considering. I believe we'll see progress there not in some distant future but within the next two or three months.”
