Russian Gas Flows to Italy Remain Low

Italy’s Eni has reported it continues to receive 50-65% of the gas requested from Russia in recent days.

  • Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi said on Saturday that gas supply in Italy of around 200mcm, exceeds current demand of around 150-160mcm but there are fears about the pace at which inventories are refilled ahead of winter if there are further supply issues.
  • Lower supplies from Russia are closely being watched by Italian officials but they have said today that there is no need to trigger gas supply alert measures yet.
  • Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi called the reduction in gas supplies from Russia "political leverage" last week and said the explanation of the reduction due to technical difficulties was "a lie."
