Russian Refined Product Exports Hit 5-Month High

OIL PRODUCTS

Russia’s oil product exports hit a five-month high in the first 23 days of September, up 15% on August, according to Bloomberg and Vortexa.

  • Refined fuel exports were 2.6m b/d, boosted by higher naphtha and fuel oil output. Naphtha exports surged 76% to 604k b/d while fuel oil shipments were 850k b/d, the highest since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
  • The increase comes despite ongoing refinery maintenance during turnaround season.
  • However, diesel shipments decreased and are expected to slow further since Russia’s ban on exports of the product began Sep. 21. Diesel exports were down 8% from August to 0.96m b/d during Sep. 1-23.
  • Just three tankers carry around 100k mt of diesel have departed from Primorsk since Sep. 21, when the ban was implemented.
