US DATA: Sept CPI +0.5%, core CPI +0.1% (+0.127% unrounded), below 
forecasts for +0.6% overall and +0.2% core. The BLS said it could not 
quantify the impact of the hurricane and noted there was a small impact 
on data collection in Florida. The y/y rate for headline CPI now +2.2% 
vs +1.9% in Aug, but the y/y rate for core CPI still +1.7%. Energy 
prices were key, +6.1% for Sept, with gasoline prices +13.1%, leaving 
CPI ex only energy +0.1%. Food prices +0.1% on +0.3% on food away from 
home, offset by declines in meat, dairy, and fruit. Within the core, 
owners' equivalents rents +0.2% and lodging away from home +1.5%. New 
vehicles prices -0.4%, health care -0.1%. Overall, the data suggests 
stable growth of underlying inflation, allowing the FOMC to maintain a 
controlled pace of policy tightening. The 3Q/3Q average for the CPI-W, 
the pr oxy for the cost of living increase for Social Security
