Socar Refinery in Turkey Reducing Russia Crude Supplies

The Socar Star oil refinery in Turkey is cutting down purchases of Russian crude, according to tanker tracking and an Bloomberg sources.

  • Only two tankers left Russian ports heading for the refinery in Jan and another two in Feb according to tanker tracking data. The average flow volume is about 50kbpd compared to about 180kbpd in seven cargoes per month from August to October.
  • The company is due to all but halt Russian purchases according to Bloomberg sources.
  • Turkey was one of the key buyers of Russian crude late last year, but shipments reduced significantly following the sanctions on Russian crude at the start of December.
