Spain's Ribera Would Like Russian LNG Sanctioned by EU

The EU will ban imports of Russian LNG “sooner than later” according to Spain’s Energy Minister Teresa Ribera.

  • Russian gas faces potential sanctions pressures with oil and oil products already under restrictions.
  • Ribera sent a letter to Spanish LNG importers in March asking them to avoid signing Russian LNG deals once contracts had expired.
  • All the companies contacted pledged not to sign new contracts, Ribera said.
  • Ribera would like to see the same push across other EU nations an a more concerted push by the EU to ban flows.
