US TSY FLOWS: /STOCKS/OIL: Tsys continued bid amid weak US and European stock
indexes, and weak NYMEX crude oil too: NYMEX is off 1.61%. Citi's Tim Evans said
"the petroleum markets are in retreat in what looks like technical profit taking
after nearby October Brent crude oil failed to pop above the $53.64 high trade
from Aug. 10, despite a force majeure on some Libyan crude oil shipments and a
report that OPEC exports fell more than expected in the first half of August."
- He adds that "on a short-term basis, the failure to rally on bullish news
sends a bearish signal although it may also be considered a buying opportunity
for intermediate-term or more fundamentally oriented traders. We also note that
trade in September WTI will feature further book squaring ahead of Tuesday's
contract expiration."
