Stocks Sag at the Open, With Energy Leading the Index Lower

EQUITIES
  • Stocks open lower at the open alongside futures, with the e-mini S&P holding losses of close to 70 points on the day, while the Dow Jones future underperforms - lower by 1.7% at typing.
  • Selling pressure also evident across the NYSE, with 1,837 names sold at the open - the largest number seen since mid-September.
  • Energy names are unsurprisingly the poorest performers, with explorers and producers following the crude price lower. Financials and materials not far behind, while defensive healthcare and consumer staples fare slightly better.
